Given the secrets they all seem to be keeping, this might not be a bad thing because the truth seems destined to tear them all apart. She can hear what is going on around her but has no way of letting the nurses or her family who visit her know. It starts with Amber, lying in a hospital bed after a near fatal car crash. The first few chapters had me convinced I’d made the right choice and things only got better from there I have to say, especially with some great twists in the last third which pretty much turned everything I had been thinking on it’s head. Add to that some positive reviews and I felt like this was a book I really wanted to read. So this is possibly one of the shortest blurbs in the history of blurbs – and completely intrigued me as a result.

However, as soon as you are into this story, you will not want to put it down. This is a complicated story at the start and there is a lot of various pieces you will need to understand. Time constraints lead to a slow start with this book which left me a little confused, I would suggest making sure you have enough time before reaching for this title. But she is afraid, and she needs to remember. Is Paul somehow responsible? Amber simply cannot remember. As she struggles to find her way back she has nothing to do but try to remember what happened that landed her in hospital. She can feel, hear and smell everything around her, but she cannot move and she cannot communicate. However, when everything falls into place you are left with a thrilling tale that leaves you amazed by the creativity that went into creating this story.Īmber wakes up in the hospital, only she is not awake. At times this can feel a little overwhelming as you try to piece the various events together. The author jumps around in this book, sharing Amber’s thoughts while she is in a coma, her life before her accident and diary entries from twenty years earlier. This psychological thriller was a fabulous read, full of twists and guaranteed to keep you reading late into the night.

Now that I have finally found the time to dig into this book from 2017, I feel like kicking myself for waiting so long to get to this one. Alice Feeney is an author that has been sitting on my TBR for a while and for some reason I never seem to get around to reading her books.
